How to keep your New Years Resolution to travel more

Enviably every January 1st social media is flooded with people’s resolutions for the upcoming year, there’s always the exercise more, eat healthier, spend more time with friends, limit technology use, but it’s on the rare occasion I see people who make a resolution to travel more. I think that’s a wonderful resolution, it possibly combines all of the above resolutions and incorporates the wonderful concept of expanding your horizons. So, the question is, how does one keep your resolution to travel more?

CNBC posted some great ideas for how to keep travel affordable, keeping in mind that not every trip needs to be the trip of a lifetime, but your lifetime should be full of trips. Websites like Airbnb and Homeaway allow you the chance to get away with affordable locations , or you could consider Nomador– a website for house-sitting ( and i can tell you from experience, house sitting provides some of the best vacations away from your everyday life!) You can also use apps such as Gogobots and Maps.Me to help you navigate the area your are visiting whether its finding a restaurants, shopping, or entertainment location.  There are so many tools for making your resolution possible, including the ever popular AAA service that will make your travel arrangements, suggest activities in the area, and even take care of last minute reservations- could it get any easier than that?!

If it’s bed and breakfasts you’re looking for, try BedandBreakfast.com– this site is easy to navigate, will sort your selections by zip code, and give you tips for making your stay successful! We were even mentioned as one of BedandBreakfasts.com top B&B&B’s (Bed, Breakfast, and Breweries) to visit for beer lovers! Don’t forgot to always check out review sites such as TripAdvisor and Google Review for an in-depth and personal reviews of the places your are looking to visit!

In addition to the internet helping you keep your travel resolutions, consider following these 5 easy steps when planning your time away. First, pick your destination (not always the easiest step ). Second, pick your date ( once picked tell the world about it so you can give plenty of advance notice for time off, house sitting, and other arrangements). Thirdly, solicit advice ( again consult review websites, put a post out on Facebook, or call up a friend who you know has been to that area). Fourth, set-up your travel fund ( put money aside each month so your vacation fun money doesn’t seem impossible the week before your leave). Fifth, remember it’s vacation, don’t overload your itinerary ahead of time, sometimes spontaneity makes for the best memories!

We wish you the good luck and the happiest of memories in 2016 and hope to see you all at the 1777 Americana Inn Bed & Breakfast!
